Gathering #2 - Biomimicry
For our second Gathering we are focusing on Biomimicry.
Tandem Repeat has developed revolutionary technology based on squid DNA that combines materials science and biomanufacturing to produce performance composites with tunable properties.
Subsea Micropiles is adapting terrestrial micropiling technology modeled on natural systems such as mangrove roots, to the offshore construction sector for high performance seabed foundations and anchors, supporting a wide range of applications to include increasingly larger offshore wind turbines.
If you’re not familiar with biomimicry, here is a great introduction to the subject from our friend Katie Losey at Fragile Earth (the hosting biomimicry.org site is a terrific general resource as well).

Gathering #1
We’re excited that our first two companies have intriguing business models and are well on their way. Sara Rademaker of American Unagi is North America’s sole eel farmer (that we can find), and Urchinomics is similarly the only “sea urchin rancher” we’ve come across.
