The Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator Announces Racquel Moses as CEO

Following its recent launch, the Caribbean Accelerator names Racquel Moses as CEO to support Caribbean leaders to deliver their vision of a climate-smart zone.

Racquel Moses, CEO, brings to the Accelerator 20 years of business management experience across the Caribbean region, most recently at Microsoft.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago— Jan 10 — Today the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator announced Racquel Moses as Chief Executive Officer. The Accelerator is an entrepreneurial engine that catalyzes priority initiatives toward a climate-smart zone, delivering resilience, social development and broad-based economic growth for the Caribbean.

Moses will lead the Accelerator as it delivers this strategy, bringing with her nearly two decades of business management experience in the Caribbean region, most recently at Microsoft. Moses will work with key stakeholders in governments and the public and private sectors to co-develop and agree on Accelerator strategies to drive investment projects across the Caribbean at scale. She will be based in Port of Spain, Trinidad and started her role as CEO on January 9, 2019.

This appointment signals the ramping up of the Accelerator’s resiliency work to confront challenges brought on by climate change and more intense storms. The announcement follows the official launch of the Accelerator on August 9, where Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Honorable Andrew Holness, Sir Richard Branson, Usain Bolt, and many other Caribbean leaders fired a starting pistol in the battle against climate change.

Before coming to fill the role of the Accelerator’s CEO, Moses was country manager and regional public-sector director for Microsoft in Port of Spain, Trinidad, where she engaged with regional ministers and developed a digital transformation strategy for CARICOM countries. Previously, she served as president of InvestTT, Trinidad and Tobago’s national investment promotion agency, where she implemented innovative methodologies resulting in multimillion dollars’ worth of growth in investments and exponential job growth from the agency. She led the agency to award-winning performance and was recognized by UNCTAD for excellence in investment promotion in sustainable development. She later served as regional head for ACCA, the largest global professional organization for accountants, where she worked to increase member satisfaction and metrics in determining strategies and measuring progress. She holds a master’s degree in management of information technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, and is an avid marathon runner.

“The Caribbean has always been a beacon of beauty, strength and accomplishment. I am humbled to be working with the region’s public and private sectors to usher in an age of climate-smart implementation. Despite the most recent egregious impacts of climate change on our region I am more hopeful than ever before that our time is now to shine a light on its impact and proactively become better, stronger and more resilient together,” Moses reported.

MEETING GLOBAL CHALLENGES TOGETHER

There’s no shortage of challenges for the Caribbean to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The hire of Moses is a positive step forward not only for the Accelerator’s coalition of 27 countries but for the entire Caribbean community that will become a beacon for other nations to follow.

The Accelerator’s partners, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), are also welcoming news of the appointment. Commenting on the announcement, IDB Regional Operations Advisor Musheer Kamau noted, “The Accelerator represents the eager ambition of all Caribbean people to face the threat of climate change head on. Now, as CEO, Racquel Moses brings her training, experience, and passion to this vision for a new climate smart Caribbean. We are confident that under her stewardship the vision will become reality.”

Moses and the Accelerator’s board of advisors will usher the Accelerator into the next phase of growth. This includes setting financial targets and working with public and private sector partners to develop and identify investment opportunities and projects that will form the pipeline.
