INVESTABLE OCEANS

Welcome to our August Newsletter.

United Nations Ocean Conference - How’d it go?

With 6,000 people participating in hundreds of meetings and events addressing a kaleidoscopic range of issues, the UN Ocean conference last month is difficult to shrink-wrap into a few sentences. Still, we were delighted to share some reactions in the most recent Ocean Exchange Navigator newsletter along with a few other community members. Here are two more thoughtful reviews from China Ocean Dialogue and Mongabay . In all, lots of positive energy, lots of commitments; now, it’s time for follow through.

Partners and Engagement Updates:

We continue to collaborate to build a broader, comprehensive ocean investing effort. A few recent examples:

  • ORRAA : We attended their convening in Lisbon, where during an action-packed day they announced that Investable Oceans was among new additions to their expanding global ecosystem . You can find ORRAA’s new Call for Proposals for innovative ocean finance projects here.
  • 1000 Ocean Startups: We were truly impressed by the debut of the Ocean Impact Navigator – an open-source impact KPI framework for ocean investors – which was presented in Lisbon. We attended both events, and Ted also joined an investment panel. Here is his recap (from memory, apologies!).
  • TOOL & World Ocean Council: We participated in the recent Biofouling Innovation Challenge , the first global competition focused on solutions to improve the prevention, management and monitoring of marine biofouling and loved it! Finalists will present at Pitchfest at the Sustainable Ocean Summit in October in Barcelona.

Photo Contest:

As a team with diverse interests, one thing we all agree on is that the ocean inspires us. So, starting with next month’s newsletter, we’ll be showcasing our favorite images from beneath the waves right here! Submit your favorite ocean snaps and secure bragging rights for that month here.

Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources:

Some recent publications provide a array of useful insights, and are all worth a look:

Bonus: End of Summer Reading List! 📖 🏖 🌊

Here are five compelling reads you might want to consider before autumn arrives. Feel free to browse our other 100+ ocean titles, and let us know what you’re reading too!

As always, we thank you for your support.
