Social media motivates people to do lots of things, like snap and post pictures of otherwise mundane stuff, like yummy sandwiches and cute haircuts. An Ocean Conservancy app called Clean Swell has been motivating people to show off efforts to rid shorelines of plastic and other junk, growing in popularity since its release in 2016 and recently snagging a Webby Award nomination.
